It’s starting to feel like Groundhog Day, the Bill Murray movie where he had to repeat a single day over and over. My Groundhog Day looks like this: wake up, check email/Slack, breakfast, get the kids set up on their school work, Zoom Webinar (or three), lunch, another meeting or two, walk around the neighborhood with the family, dinner, then Netflix, and then another restless night of sleep. Rinse and Repeat.
Yes, for those paying attention, this was last week’s first paragraph. My prediction came true this week — more of the same. We did have a bit of good news on the personal front, my father-in-law received an experimental plasma treatment that helped him recover from his COVID-19 infection. There was a nice write-up of his somewhat harrowing experience in a local Houston paper. Getting the word out about his condition through social media channels proved to be a pivotal factor in his recovery, so I would think twice about quitting Facebook.
Like many of you, I’m getting a little “Webinar-ed” out, and just so you know, not every meeting needs to be a video call — the phone works just fine (and gives you a chance to walk around a bit). Also, a pro tip for webinars is to start them a few minutes earlier than the specified time to get any technical issues out of the way (Can you hear me now?). It also allows for the necessary pleasantries to get started, like asking how everyone is doing. Networking is more important than ever so I recommend giving your attendees a little time to chat with each other, which means that you should have your (short) elevator pitch about yourself ready to go when you get on one of these meetings.
I’m curious about your experiences with Webinars and video meetings and any tips you may want to share.
